Message from Councilman Richard Cherchio

Hello Sun City Residents,
I appreciate the opportunity to write monthly for The Breeze! As many of you may know, I also write quarterly articles in our Master Association’s Aliante Aerial. However, since The Breeze is specific to Sun City Aliante (which I have the privilege of representing), I intend to write more about the issues brought to my attention by our Sun City residents.
Now, if there is anything, I miss from back in 2019… it is the opportunity to have our Lunch ‘n’ Learn meetings in the Vista Room and connecting with you. I look forward to having them once we get past this COVID-19 crisis.
This month, I would like to discuss two things that I know are of concern to you. One is COVID-19 vaccinations. First, I would like to thank your Board of Directors and the amazing staff at the Community Center for giving me and our North Las Vegas Fire Department the opportunity to provide you with vaccinations over these past few weeks. I will be back volunteering once our team administers the second booster shot. Right now, we are restricted to vaccinating those age 70 and above. I hope you can understand that we must account to the Southern Nevada Health District for every vaccination and follow their instructions on the tier levels. However, we hope the age group will be lowered to include our younger kids, starting at 69, soon; I do encourage everyone -- once given the opportunity -- to receive the vaccine.
Both my wife, Gloria, and I received the vaccine, and I can tell you the worst part was having a bit of a sore arm for one day. Otherwise, please rest assured it is a safe and needed preventive measure for us all to take. I am incredibly grateful for our North Las Vegas Fire Department personnel, who together with the help of volunteers, made the vaccine process at the Community Center run as smoothly as I have ever seen anywhere. Those who are 70 and older who have not received the vaccine are encouraged to register at VAXNLV.COM. There are also multiple locations around the valley that I have listed in my newsletter; so, please subscribe to be in the know.
Secondly, a subject that is near and dear to your heart… the Villages of Tule Springs will soon become a reality. Now, I have heard your concerns regarding the potential of having two-story homes adjacent to the community on the eastside/Clayton Street alignment. Please rest assured, there will not be any construction of two-story homes looking down into our resident yards. I discussed this with a builder and their attorney and reminded them that only one-story homes are allowed in the area (this was also put in writing years ago).
I will say this, the Villages is going to be a premier master-planned community with many different home styles and higher-end properties available, starting from our community heading east to approximately Losee Road. No matter who acquires the property near us, they will be required to attend a meeting at our Community Center to introduce themselves to the residents, discuss their products and answer your questions.
I urge you all to sign-up for my regular Ward 4 Newsletter, which provides a weekly update on what is going on here in North Las Vegas. You can sign-up by visiting the website at www.cityofnorthlasvegas.com.
If you have any questions or suggestions that you would like me to address in future articles, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org, and I will as always do my best to answer either via email or anonymously in my monthly articles.
As always, please continue practicing safe distancing, wash your hands often, and whether you have received your vaccines or not, mask up when out and in close areas with others.
Yours in service,
This a a Publication of Sun City Aliante
